India remembers Fidel Castro with soccer matches and other activities

New Delhi, August 13 (Prensa Latina) With an exhibition soccer match, Cubans and friends from India and other nations celebrated the 99th anniversary of Fidel Castro's birth and reaffirmed their solidarity with Cuba.

The sports match between the Solidarity Committee and Ambassadors teams, which aimed to pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, was also an opportunity to honor the captain of the Palestinian national soccer team, Suleiman Obeid, known as the Palestinian Pele, who was killed in Gaza by Israeli Zionist troops.

The event included the participation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), M.A. Baby, accompanied by young Indians and officials from the political organization and the National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba in India.

Also present were Cuban ambassador Juan Marsan and representatives from the diplomatic missions of China, Russia, Venezuela, and other nations.

After a 6-6 draw in regular time, the ambassadors’ team, wearing blue jerseys, defeated the Solidarity Committee, wearing red, in a penalty shootout, sealing a match filled with camaraderie and sportsmanship, one of Cuba’s achievements thanks to Fidel Castro’s policies.

Likewise, as part of the activities in India in tribute to Fidel, the day before in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, there was an act of solidarity with Cuba, according to diplomatic sources.

There, in the presence of the Cuban ambassador, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and state authorities, a donation was announced to support the Caribbean island’s healthcare system, and three books in Tamil about the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution were presented.
