Santiago de Cuba pays tribute to Fidel on his birthday (+Photos)

Santiago de Cuba, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of Santiago residents, representing all Cubans, paid tribute at the resting place of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, 99 years after his birth.

The first Secretary of the Young Communist League in Santiago de Cuba, Yesenia Acuna, reaffirmed that Cuban youth will NOT betray Fidel’s legacy or socialism; that the future begins now and the work is demanding.

Acuna called on the youth vanguard to lead the people, to move forward and grow along the paths of triumph, in the complex economic and political context the world is experiencing, where Cuba is an example of resilience.

The youth leader also called on Cubans to remain steadfast in the fight against the organized media campaign of the United States, which seeks to discredit the Revolution and its leaders.

Representatives of student organizations, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, and workers from various sectors arrived at the funeral monument in Santa Ifigenia with roses in their hands.

Party Central Committee member and First Secretary in Santiago de Cuba, Beatriz Johnson, and Governor Manuel Falcon placed bouquets of flowers at the foot of the niche embedded in the stone that reads “Fidel.”
