Vietnam honors Fidel Castro with campaign to support Cuba

Hanoi, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) A national campaign to support the Cuban people, led by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, was launched to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.

The program, withn the celebrations for the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, will run until October 16 and aims to raise at least 65 billion dong (approximately two and a half million dollars).

This was announced at the launch ceremony by the acting president of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, Nguyen Hai Anh, who noted that Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to recognize Vietnam and Fidel Castro the first and only dignitary to visit it during the war of resistance against the United States.

Hai Anh emphasized that the campaign, launched on the birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, is not only humanitarian in nature but also sends a powerful message to the international community: “Vietnam will always stand by Cuba, as Cuba stands by Vietnam.”

Present at the ceremony, Political Bureau member, Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Do Van Chien, also emphasized the significance of this initiative, which reaffirms the spirit of special solidarity, loyalty, and close ties between the two nations.

With this campaign, he noted, we are writing a new page in the history of friendship between Cuba and Vietnam, two countries that have enjoyed an exemplary, loyal, and exceptional relationship for 65 years.

Speaking at the event, the Cuban ambassador to Vietnam, Rogelio Polanco, emphasized that the special ties between these two nations were founded by their leaders, Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro.
