Customs data reveals that air conditioner exports from China to EU countries reached $3.76 billion during the first half of 2025, representing a 43.2 percent increase year-over-year and setting a new record for this period.
Due to high rental rates, a deep-rooted awareness of environmental protection, and the high cost of installation and operation, air conditioning is not as widely used in Europe as in many other parts of the world.
Drilling holes in walls is often prohibited in historic buildings, and owners generally do not approve of outdoor air conditioning units.
Furthermore, installation must be performed by certified professionals and regular maintenance is required. To address this situation, Chinese air conditioning brand Midea has launched a portable air conditioner for the European market.
It is a portable, quiet, and comfortable split-type product that meets the needs of local consumers and is popular in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
“This model has an indoor and outdoor unit, but unlike traditional split units, it is easy to install and can be moved. Its cooling performance is excellent,” says Zhu Zhou, Sales Director of Midea Air Conditioning for Residential Sector in Europe.
