According to the official report from the Asian giant, the meeting, known as “Diplomatic Tea,” took place in an atmosphere of harmony and frank dialogue within the framework of the 10th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that both Cambodia and Thailand wish to end the border conflict and restore dialogue. He also expressed his hope that this meeting would provide an opportunity to move forward in that direction, and thus urged both parties to jointly issue a “voice of Anning” in favor of reconciliation.
According to the top diplomat, China supports direct talks between Cambodia and Thailand to overcome misunderstandings and rebuild trust, as well as the restoration of bilateral cooperation and the reopening of border crossings.
Wang Yi expressed Beijing’s support for the full implementation of the consensus reached at the special meeting of the General Boundary Commission between the two countries.
He also praised the role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in resolving the conflict and its use of its own method based on dialogue, consultation, and the peaceful settlement of differences.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia reaffirmed the value of peace and the importance of maintaining good relations with their neighbors.
