“Volodin arrived in Pyongyang leading a State Duma delegation at the invitation of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK,” the Russian press reported.
The two-day visit program includes participation in ceremonies commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Korean Peninsula from Japanese colonial rule.
The DPRK and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty on June 19, 2024, during President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to Pyongyang. The new document is open-ended and replaces a bilateral agreement on friendship, good neighbors, and cooperation established in 2000.
The DPRK’s military forces assisted Russian troops in expelling Ukrainian forces that invaded Kursk border region in August 2024.
