United Kingdom rules out sending troops to Ukraine

London, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The British government has abandoned its plans to deploy a military contingent in Ukraine and will instead opt for training and logistical support missions, Sky News revealed.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will prioritize more realistic operations: protecting airspace in western Ukraine, training Ukrainian soldiers, and demining the Black Sea.

Originally, the plan was to send 30,000 troops as part of the coalition of the willing.

This strategic shift comes after consultations with NATO allies, including Germany and the United States. Starmer had previously offered support for deterrent forces, but only once hostilities cease.

Analysts interpret the decision as an attempt to avoid a direct escalation with Russia, while maintaining support for Kiev.

London remains one of the main arms suppliers to Ukraine, with commitments totaling £3 billion this year.

The British shift reflects divisions within NATO over the level of military involvement in the conflict, with France open to sending instructors and Germany showing caution.
