According to the Elysee Palace, which confirmed the conversation, the participants were French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
This dialogue followed the one held with US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, following yesterday’s meeting in Alaska between the White House chief and the Russian leader, which failed to produce the ceasefire initially hoped for by Washington and the Europeans.
The leaders of the old continent welcomed Trump’s efforts to stop the war, reiterated their accusations against Moscow, and insisted they will continue to support Kiev.
The Kremlin assured that at the Alaska meeting, Putin once again presented to his host Russia’s conditions for achieving peace with its neighbor.
It was also learned this Saturday that Trump will receive Zelensky at the White House on Monday in a continuation of efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
