At the evening to celebrate the 99th anniversary of the birth of Fidel Castro and begin the commemoration of his centenary, the ambassador of Cuba here, Enna Viant, pondered the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief, ‘that has constituted the basis for deepening and expanding the scope of the strategic relations of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and Laos’.
The head of the diplomatic mission also quoted words of the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC) and Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, who recently pointed out that these are days of looking back to an infinite work like the dignity of Cuba.
Representatives of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education, and the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association also highlighted the validity of Fidel Castro’s thinking in areas such as foreign policy and its principles in defense of peoples’ sovereignty and independence.
They further emphasized internationalism, solidarity and their contribution to international cooperation in various fields, including education and training of the new man with humanistic values.
There were also presented at the meeting audiovisual materials related to the revolutionary work of the historic leader and there was space for conversations with Laotian students graduated in Cuba, as well as to say goodbye to five other young people who will leave on the 18th next day for the island with the same purpose.
A graduate who shared some experiences of her stay in Havana said she has not only remembered Fidel Castro and his work, but also the friendship strengthened in each young person who returns from Cuba with a university degree and in each collaboration project that materializes ‘as a clear proof that together we are stronger’.
