In an interview with the Al Ahram newspaper, the Cuban diplomat reflected on more than 75 years of bilateral ties and referred to new opportunities to expand collaboration.
Pellicer recalled that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba in September 1949, and the friendship between the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
The ambassador underscored that both Cuba and Egypt are peace-loving nations, and we share common views on many key issues related to the international agenda, such as support for the Palestinian cause.
He also expressed gratitude for Cairo’s continued support for the annual Cuban resolution presented at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling for an end to the US blockade.
Regarding economic and trade relations, Pellicer affirmed that there is a clear political will to enhance cooperation in many sectors, such as healthcare and the biopharmaceutical industry.
