Ahmed, for his part, expressed his deep sadness on his X profile at the passing of the prominent artist, who left a thoughtful mark on the history of modern Ethiopian art.

“Debebe Eshetu is one of the leading figures in the development of modern Ethiopian theater and cinema. We will always remember the role he played through his artistic talent in helping Ethiopia successfully complete the journey of change it had begun,” he emphasized.

Eshetu was an experienced and versatile artist who captivated numerous audiences through his participation in a range of films and theater productions, including “Shaft in Africa,” as well as several other local and foreign films.

He was also an author, translator, singer, journalist, and human rights advocate.
