A recent meeting of legislators with Vice President Carolina Cosse, Secretary of the Presidency Alejandro Sanchez, and Broad Front President Fernando Pereira outlined the strategy for the legislative legislation, the proposal for which will be submitted to Parliament on the last day of August.
Daniel Caggiani, coordinator of the Broad Front senators, emphasized that the budget will guide the government’s actions for the next five years.
He stated that the “goal is to rebalance public finances,” and therefore anticipated that “there will be restrictions” due to global uncertainty “with many changes in trade flows.”
In this regard, he referred to the legacy left by the previous administration, which included “a significant fiscal deficit, significant international debt, and a currency lag that particularly hinders domestic production.”
Caggiani announced that the budget seeks to promote economic openness, technological innovation, and efficiency in public management, in addition to ensuring wage growth and addressing household debt.
He explained that it sets forth commitments to combat organized crime, secure borders, fight money laundering and corruption, in addition to a “deep reform” of prisons and measures to improve the quality of life of police personnel.
In addition, the budget includes childcare, the education system, and equitable access to health services, medicines, and benefits.
