Bolivia: Arce urges to reaffirm democracy in runoff

La Paz, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Bolivians are called by President Luis Arce to reaffirm their democratic commitment in the October 19 runoff, following the August 17 general elections.

“I greet and congratulate every Bolivian man and woman who (…) went to the polls to exercise their civic right and duty to our country, and elect democratically the next president of our Plurinational State of Bolivia,” Arce wrote on social media.

According to data from the Preliminary Results Transmission System (SIREPRE) of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Rodrigo Paz, of the Partido Democrata Cristiano (Christian Democratic Party-PDC), and Jorge Tuto Quiroga, of the Alianza Libre (Free Alliance), will run the October 19 runoff.

More than 7.9 million Bolivians were called to vote for these elections, both in Bolivia and 22 countries around the world.

Although a runoff will be necessary, the composition of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP) was defined this Sunday, in which, after 20 years, the right will have a majority.

Regarding the runoff, Arce stated that now the Bolivian people have the floor.

Arce assured on Sunday that after completing his constitutional mandate on November 8, he will hand over the presidential sash to the newly elected head of State during the inauguration ceremony.
