India and Russia talk about Alaska Summit and bilateral links

New Delhi, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin today spoke by telephone about the recent meeting in Alaska and various issues of cooperation between their countries.

According to an official note, the Russian leader shared with the Indian head of government his point of view about the meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska last Friday.

After thanking President Putin, Modi underlined India’s strong stance in favor of a peaceful solution of the conflict in Ukraine and reiterated its support for all efforts in this direction, said a statement from the Office of the Indian Prime Minister.

The two leaders also addressed various issues of bilateral cooperation with a view to further strengthening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between their countries and agreed to maintain close contact, the official source said.

After the end of the Putin-Trump meeting in Alaska, the Indian Foreign Ministry described the meeting between these two presidents as highly commendable for the search for peace.

New Delhi also reaffirmed that the way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy and assured that the world wants to see an early solution of the conflict in Ukraine.

Although the expected summit between US and Russian leaders concluded without a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine, he saw the possibility of an improvement in the links between these two countries.

This could mean a positive impact for the South Asian country, one of those affected by the additional tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump to punish New Delhi for its purchases of Russian oil.
