Putin shares results of Alaska summit with his Tajik counterpart

Moscow, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rahmon, where he shared his assessment of the Russian-US summit in Alaska, the Kremlin reported.

“The President of the Russian Federation called the President of the Republic of Tajikistan to share his assessment of the results of the Russian-US summit held in Anchorage,” the statement read.

In turn, the Tajik leader welcomed the measures aimed at a political and diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, the note reads.

Putin and Rahmon also discussed key issues related to the development of bilateral relations and preparations for the Russian leader’s state visit to Tajikistan, the Central Asia-Russia summit, and the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which will take place in October in Dushanbe, the Tajik capital.

Last Friday, Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, met in Anchorage, Alaska, for a two-hour and 45-minute summit, the first since Trump returned to the White House last January.

The meeting aimed to seek a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and improve relations between the United States and Russia.

After the summit, Trump stated that it was now up to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to conclude a possible peace agreement.
