Italy concludes airdrops of humanitarian aid to Gaza

Rome, Aug 19 (Prensa Latina) The Italian Air Force concluded the airdrop of humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip, as part of Operation Trail of Solidarity 2, after delivering 100 tons of food.

A statement released on the official website of the Ministry of Defense highlights that nine shipments were made using C-130 aircraft, beginning on August 9 from Jordan, with supplies provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Colonel Davide Verdolini, commander of this humanitarian operation, told the press that some 40 Italian soldiers worked day and night to prepare the cargo in the hangar at the Jordanian military airport, where the contingent was deployed.

Verdolini specified that the airlift, with an estimated time of one hour to reach the destination, was carried out through predefined corridors to avoid traffic problems.

For his part, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto noted that by carrying out this mission, the institution “reaffirms its commitment to civilians affected by the war, helping to reduce suffering and save lives.”

Crosetto reiterated that with this initiative, Italy provided assistance “to those who suffer the horrors of war daily,” as its main objective was to “intervene promptly” to lessen the humanitarian emergency facing this population, victims of Israeli attacks that have already caused the deaths of more than 60,000 Palestinians.

This operation also aimed to “support the political and diplomatic effort for a lasting ceasefire, a prerequisite for the only possible peace, in accordance with the principle of two peoples, two states,” the minister added.
