This is a repeat of the operational model by which Uruguayan territory serves as a staging and export point for drug trafficking organizations.

“Last weekend, during one of the inspection procedures carried out in the port of Rotterdam on a container ship, local authorities managed to seize a total of 88 kilos of cocaine, hidden behind the engine compartments of two refrigerated containers transporting meat.”

The Uruguayan customs expressed that “45 kilos of cocaine were seized from the container from Uruguay, and the remaining 43 kilos of cocaine were seized from the container from Argentina,” the statement said.

The ship carrying the containers “departed Montevideo on July 20, stopped at the ports of Paranaguá (Brazil) and Buenos Aires, and arrived at the port of Rotterdam on August 17.”

“The container, of Uruguayan origin, corresponds to a meat export and was scanned on July 17, with no anomalies detected at that time,” the National Customs Directorate stated.
