Both sides agreed during the talks to intensify efforts aimed at reducing tensions, refrain from interfering in Syrian domestic affairs, and support understandings that contribute to consolidating the ceasefire in the southern Syrian province of Sweida.
The talk also included the reactivation of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, in force in the buffer zone of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
The talks were mediated by the United States, within the framework of diplomatic initiatives aimed at preserving the security, stability, and territorial integrity of Syria.
According to the website Axios, the meeting also brought together Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, a close ally of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Washington’s special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack.
The outlet specified that this meeting, initially scheduled for last week, was postponed at the last minute and marks the second meeting between Dermer and Al-Shaibani in less than a month, after more than two decades of almost total diplomatic estrangement.
The four hour meeting focused on de-escalation measures, including proposals for security in southern Syria and the possible opening of a humanitarian corridor to the city of Sweida in support of the Druze community.
