The workshop “Amazonia Towards COP30: Amazonian Regional Position for the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference” is taking place at the Center for Memory, Peace, and Reconciliation this Thursday.

The entities comprising the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), including Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela, are also holding other meetings.

In addition, the Indigenous Peoples’ Meeting and an event of the National Cooperation System for the Amazon Region will be held at the National University’s Newspaper Archive.

The Summit aims to advance regional agreements that will allow the Amazon to avoid the point of no return, an ecosystem that, if it reaches a level of deforestation close to 24 percent, would lose its capacity for self-regeneration.

Deputy Environmental Land Management Minister Tatiana Roa highlighted that the meeting will adopt a joint declaration establishing regional agreements that establish shared priorities for the defense of the Amazon as a biome, which is not only essential to the region but also to life on the planet.
