China urged to promote stability and cooperation with Afghanistan

Beijing, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) China today called for strengthening regional cooperation and promoting stability in Afghanistan and its neighboring countries, in connection with the agenda of Foreign Minister Wang Yi in that nation.

According to spokesman Mao Ning, the head of the Asian country’s diplomacy visited Afghanistan where he met with senior government officials and participated in the sixth China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers’ talks.

Wang Yi met with the Afghan prime minister, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, and the Afghan Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi.

During the meetings, China advocated equality among all countries regardless of their size, the spokesperson added.

He stressed that all nations should treat each other with mutual respect and work towards mutually beneficial cooperation.

Mao quoted the words of Wang Yi who stressed that Afghanistan, like any other country, has the right to development and prosperity.

China, he said, “maintains a friendly foreign policy towards all the Afghan people, will respect the choice of the Afghan people and will support the government in office in its efforts to ensure order, promote economic development and firmly combat terrorism,” he stressed.

During his visit, Wang Yi reaffirmed the importance for Afghanistan to strengthen its relations with neighbouring countries in order to achieve lasting peace and security.

According to Mao Ning, China supports improving bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, integrating common interests and managing differences through consultation.

The three nations agreed to make full use of the dialogue mechanism to expand cooperation in multiple sectors and promote peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region.
