Iran conducts two-day naval exercise in the Indian Ocean

Tehran, Aug 21 (Prensa Latina) Iran today launched a naval exercise using state-of-the-art missiles in the Gulf of Oman and the northern Indian Ocean.

According to Official Irna agency, the missile systems and naval units of the Iranian Army Navy managed to simultaneously impact and destroy a surface target at sea using the cruise missiles ‘Nasir’ and ‘Qadir’, as well as the coastal anti-ship missile ‘Qader’.

In turn, the Navy spokesman, Rear Admiral Abbas Hasani, reported that the training will last two days and is aimed at improving operational planning, combat preparedness and command capabilities, as well as strengthen deterrence.

It was also announced that the exercises also involve surface and submarine vessels, aircraft, coastal and naval long-, medium- and short-range cruise missile batteries and electronic warfare units.

Local sources recall on Thursday that at the end of last month, Iran and Russia also conducted joint three-day naval exercises in the Caspian Sea, the border between the two countries.

The current exercises are also taking place after the end of the so-called 12-day war with Israel last June.
