This Thursday the Movement for the Defense of the Working Class (MDT) will present a third petition of unconstitutionality against the package of constitutional reforms, approved in the Legislative, and which opponents indicate should have been consulted with the population.
The information was disclosed by Patricio Pineda, member of the Board for a ‘Honorable Retirement’, who yesterday accompanied an appeal against the indefinite re-election made by the Salvadoran Left Movement (MIS).
That initiative was added to another one introduced by the deputy Claudia Ortiz, of the party Vamos, in line with exposing to the Constitutional Chamber the articles violated with the package of reforms approved.
According to Walter Raudales, who chairs the MIS, with these appeals they test the judicial system, as they expect the Constitutional Chamber to make a thorough study of the arguments.
“This is a claim of unconstitutionality with constitutional arguments, with the idea that adds to the initial demand presented by Congresswoman Claudia Ortiz, in line with exposing the Constitutional Chamber the articles violated by the reforms,” said Raudales.
Since its passing on the proposal of the majority of the New Ideas party without prior debate, the package of amendments has been subject to criticism from broad sectors of society, political parties, non-governmental organizations and the Catholic Church.
Opinions of local experts and analysts indicate that it is difficult for these initiatives to succeed, since the Government controls all the powers of the State.
However, in the opinion of Raudales “there are magistrates who I think will act ethically”.
