Syrian media reported that during a UN Security Council briefing on the situation in the Middle East, Qatar’s permanent representative to the multilateral body, Alia Al Thani, said that Syria’s national unity represents the real guarantee to prevent regional destabilization and confront terrorism in all its forms.
The diplomat stressed that Syria is going through a critical phase marked by humanitarian, economic, developmental and security challenges, which directly affect the daily lives of the population and place an additional burden on state institutions.
In this regard, he called for international support to facilitate the recovery, reconstruction and economic revival of the country as a way to strengthen internal and regional stability.
On behalf of the Arab Group, Al Thani emphasized the need to consolidate national unity under the sovereignty of the Syrian state and its institutions, as well as to advance an inclusive political process that guarantees the participation of all components of the Syrian people.
