Cuban Embassy in Chile celebrates FMC anniversary

Santiago, Chile, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban state mission in Chile celebrated the 65th anniversary of the founding, this Saturday, of the Cuban Women's Federation (FMC) and paid tribute to its founder, Vilma Espin, and leader Fidel Castro.

Rosario Rodriguez, first secretary in charge of political affairs, highlighted during the event the important role played by this organization, which currently has 4.4 million members.

According to FMC data, women currently hold 49 percent of parliamentary seats and account for more than 65 percent of the country’s professionals and technicians.

Rodriguez remembered Fidel Castro’s words when he said that Cuban women are a revolution within the Revolution.

She noted that August also marked the Commander-in-Chief’s 99th birthday, which was held here at a ceremony in the Alejandro Lipschutz Institute of Sciences.

The diplomat said Fidel was a paradigm not only for Cuba but also for Latin America and other nations globally, and his thinking remains extraordinarily relevant.
