Ayman Abu Rahma, director of that Ministry’s Preventive Medicine Department, told SAFA that the renewed military attacks have led to a significant increase in the spread of infectious diseases due to repeated displacement and the complete collapse of the healthcare system.
Abu Rahma stressed that any new wave of displacement will exacerbate the health disaster in the Strip, amid growing overcrowding in shelters and camps, which increases the likelihood of disease and epidemic outbreaks.
He noted that children and the elderly are the most vulnerable groups to this problem.
He denounced the complex living conditions in the camps due to the lack of drinking water, basic food, and sanitation, which contributed to the rapid spread of diseases.
