South African government urges investment in the country

Pretoria, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) South African Deputy Prime Minister, Kenny Morolong, urged business leaders and international investors to bet on the country's economy for the long term and take advantage of the opportunities given in the current G20 presidency.

During his speech at the 20th edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Africa India Conclave, held in New Delhi, Morolong emphasized how South Africa is committed to sustainable development and responding to the challenges of climate change, positioning itself as a strategic hub within the AfCFTA (African Continental Free Trade Area).

This, he said, allows it to access a market of 1,4 billion consumers and a $3 billion economy, according to government and multilateral organizations.

“Our G20 presidency is both a platform and a promise,” Morolong stated. “South Africa is open. Africa is open. We invite the business community and our partners to build a more equitable and sustainable future together.”

The call comes just weeks before the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Pretoria and reaffirms South Africa’s interest in consolidating its position as a hub for investment and strengthening Africa’s position in the global debate on development and international cooperation.
