Barcelona, center of solidarity flotilla with Gaza

Barcelona, Aug 29 (Prensa Latina) The city of Barcelona becomes the center of the solidarity flotilla that will depart this Sunday for Gaza, with the goal of helping the Palestinian people.

After being detained two months ago by the Israeli Army while part of the Freedom Flotilla, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg announced in early August the launch of a new mission with similar purposes.

Many of those detained or deported then are now returning to the Global Freedom Flotilla, which involves 44 countries and has 50 ships, with internationally renowned passengers, including American actress Susan Sarandon, Greta Thunberg herself, and several intellectuals and politicians from different parts of the world.

Barcelona’s Moll de la Fusta (Wharf) will be the epicenter of activities such as concerts and rallies starting this Friday, supported by other Mediterranean ports, with the aim of opening a humanitarian corridor to end the famine in Gaza Strip. However, it is likely that Israeli military forces will again block the initiative.

Days for Palestine are already taking place at Barcelona Port. The event will host “Days for Palestine,” with musical performances and the participation of Spanish personalities who have joined the flotilla, and figures from other countries, such as Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela.

The Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights, Alexis Deswaef, actress Liam Cinninghmam, MEP Jaume Asens of the Comuns party, and Catalan parliamentarian Pilar Castillejo will join the expedition.

Open mic sessions, talks with activists, children’s and popular culture workshops, as well as rallies in support of the flotilla are expected in other parts of Spain, including Galicia, Mallorca, the Basque Country, and Navarre.
