Uruguay: Measures by the Broad Front under implementation

Montevideo, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 50 percent of the main measures the Broad Front (FA) committed to in Uruguay are currently under implementation, according to Senator Daniel Caggiani.

The coordinator of the Broad Front’s caucus in the Senate stated this after the meeting held by President Yamandu Orsi with the Frente Amplio legislators regarding the proposed five-year budget law that the government will submit to Parliament for debate and approval.

The senator emphasized that this budget is based on three main pillars. One has to do with development and employment, the country’s sustained economic growth.

And the third is to combat the levels of insecurity and mortality, she explained at a press conference.

For her part, Representative Ana Olivera, former president of the Chamber of Deputies, reported that funding is being earmarked for plans for vulnerable populations, including the launch of the Crece desde el Pie program, aimed at ensuring housing conditions for newborns.

In terms of education, the fivefold increase in scholarships for high school students was announced, reaching 60,000 students.

Also, the implementation of a sheltered employment program for about 12,000 young people, and actions and funding for the creation of a national mental health system, with equitable coverage throughout the country, she added.
