Bolsonaro’s absence confirmed for his trial in Brazil

Brasilia, Sept 2 (Prensa Latina) Jair Bolsonaro's lawyer, Celso Vilardi, confirmed that the former Brazilian president will not attend today's trial session in the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

According to Vilardi, the far-right former president expressed interest in attending the in-person sessions. However, it was reported that he was not in good health.

“The president will not come,” the jurist told the press. “He is not in good health. Therefore, he has to speak with the doctors. He will not come,” he emphasized.

The First Chamber of the STF begins this Tuesday the hearing of the criminal case against Bolsonaro and seven other defendants in the attempted coup d’etat that ended up in the anti-democratic acts of January 8, 2023.

The case has been submitted to the collection of evidence and testimony, and now moves to one of its final stages: the trial.

The indictment against Bolsonaro and his allies was filed in February by the Attorney General’s Office.

Based on the investigations conducted by the Federal Police, compiled in a report submitted late last year, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office filed five requests to the Supreme Court to initiate criminal proceedings.
