Honduran Foreign Minister denies alleged resignation

Tegucigalpa, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The Honduran Foreign Minister, Javier Bú, today confronted speculation from opposition sectors about his alleged resignation and said he is in the United States fulfilling a fruitful diplomatic agenda.

In a message posted on his official X account, Bú clarified that his work transcends social media and his program of activities has been fruitful over the past few days.

“Calm down, calm down, not all diplomacy is done by X.

My agenda these days has been very productive, working, talking and listening to our diaspora, as well as high-level meetings with officials of the Donald Trump administration, said the Honduran Foreign Minister.

Among the documents shared by the foreign minister included a copy of an official agenda, which confirms a meeting held in Washington with the US Under-Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.

Although he did not detail the topics discussed at those meetings, it is clear that one of the priority points would be the situation of more than 50,000 Hondurans living in the United States for over 25 years under the Temporary Protection Status (TPS). The cancellation of the TPS was confirmed on August 20 by an appeals court that ruled in favor of the Trump administration, which on July 7 cancel this migratory benefit for the compatriots of this Central American nation.

Adopted by a panel of the Ninth Circuit of Appeals in California, the judicial decision entails that those favored by the TPS will lose their legal status and authorization to work on September 8.
