On the sidelines of the commemorations of the 80th anniversary of China’s victory over Japanese aggression, which both leaders are attending as guests, Putin and Sassou-N’Guesso discussed bilateral relations, which both sides consider excellent.
The Russian president highlighted the more than 60-year ties with Congo, a country he considered a priority in his foreign policy for Africa and a long-standing trusted friend, with which they maintain frequent contacts at the highest levels and stable trade relations.
However, he considered that both sides are in a position of deepening these economic ties, as well as to increase the number of Congolese students studying in Russia, a program that has been a flagship in relations between the two countries.
The Congolese president, for his part, stated that the talk with Putin also addressed the international situation and the need for joint work to overcome current challenges.
