These are the episodes “Elpidio Valdes Contra el Tren Militar” (1974), “Una Aventura de Elpidio Valdes” (1974), and “Clarin Mambi” (1976), all by filmmaker Juan Padron (1969-2020), whose restoration was conducted by the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation.
The screening of the series, which begins this Friday, will also feature a question-and-answer session with the participation of Luciano Castillo, director of the Cuban Film Library, and Alexandra Falla, director of the Colombian Film Heritage Foundation.
The Cuban short films now on display underwent a rigorous work process using state-of-the-art equipment to reverse the damage caused by time, use, and humidity.
The animated short films by Elpidio Valdes, who is a sympathetic Cuban independence fighter in the war against Spain, are acknowledged for their heritage value not only for the island’s idiosyncrasy but also for the entire Latin American region.
The 5th edition of the Restored Series will also feature screenings of “La Paga,” a Colombian-Venezuelan film directed by Ciro Duran in 1962, Argentine western “Hombre de la Esquina Rosada” (1962), “Daquilema” (1981) from Ecuador, and “Runan Caycu” (1973) from Peru.
