Central Africa advocates for implementation of UN resolution in DRC

Kinshasa, Sept 8 (Prensa Latina) The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) advocated for the immediate implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2773 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Radio Okapi reported.

During the seventh extraordinary summit of heads of State and government of that organization, held in Sipopo, Equatorial Guinea, participants insisted that this is a fundamental step for peace in the region.

Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi participated in the meeting, where they also discussed the security situation in the east of the country, marked by conflicts with various armed groups and the occupation of several towns in North and South Kivu by rebels from the Congo River Alliance-March 23 Movement (AFC/M23).

According to Radio Okapi, a detailed report on the serious crisis in the DRC was presented during the summit, highlighting the persistence of territories controlled by externally supported armed groups.

The meeting welcomed the joint efforts for peace, particularly the steps taken with the documents signed in Washington, with Rwanda, and in Qatar with the AFC/M23.
