In a statement to the local newspaper Escambray, the director of Agencia Taxis Cuba, Omar Alberto Cardoso, explained that “these means are manufactured and assembled in facilities of the military industry of the territory”.
He also noted that the most recent of the routes covers a wide route and that the rest connect to other facilities and sites with high concentrations of people.
“These teams enjoy great acceptance, especially for their cost of 10 pesos, and there are already 28 vehicles of this type circulating in the town,” he added.
He explained that since last July five microbuses, all produced with the support of the Transport Development Fund and as part of the sector’s Energy Transition Project, have been transiting through the streets of the former Trinitarian village.
In April 2023, the first prototype of electric microbus with a capacity for 11 passengers was tested.
So far these means of transportation use energy from the national network for their operation, but it is expected that in the future they will do so through renewable sources.
