Jordan welcomes UN support for two-State solution

Amman, Sept 13 (Prensa Latina) The Jordanian government welcomed the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the "New York Declaration," a resolution that reaffirms international support for the two-state solution as a fundamental path to achieving peace and stability in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amman welcomed the broad international support for this initiative and stressed that the resolution constitutes an important step toward recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially their right to establish an independent state with the pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Jordanian Ministry also praised the diplomatic efforts of Saudi Arabia and France, sponsors of the high-level conference held in July in New York, which served as the basis for the current declaration.

The upcoming meeting at United Nations Headquarters, according to the Foreign Ministry, will allow for continued consolidation of international support for the two-state solution and progress toward full recognition of the Palestinian state.

The UN General Assembly approved the “New York Declaration” with 142 votes in favor, 10 against—including the United States and Israel—and 12 abstentions.

Jordan’s position reaffirms its commitment to a just and lasting solution to the conflict, based on international resolutions and respect for the rights of the Palestinian people.
