Among these incidents, organizations report at least 17 femicides, primarily committed by the victims’ partners.
In the most recent incident, a 21-year-old woman was found dead, allegedly murdered by a young man with whom she left a party. Named Natalia Raquel Bernal Gomez, the deceased was reported missing on September 5.
So far, the National Civil Police (PNC) has not reported any arrests while the investigation continues. The PNC reported her murder five days after finding her body, bringing the total number of femicides so far in 2025 to 18, according to press reports.
Reports specify that the victim’s mother is in prison for allegedly belonging to the 18th Street gang, one of the two most notorious terrorist organizations in the country. Reports on the SOS El Salvador Missing Persons account stated that the young woman’s body “showed signs of violence.”
According to the Salvadoran Women’s Organization for Peace, “violent deaths of women have decreased, but they continue to occur.”
According to figures released by the State, from January 1 to June 18, 2025, authorities reported 68 cases of missing persons.
