China: media leaders call for exchanges and new communication order

Kunming, China, Sep 16 (Prensa Latina) About 200 representatives from 165 media outlets and institutions from 87 countries discussed in this city on Tuesday the shared responsibility of contributing to mutual learning among civilizations and the new world order.

This meeting is part of the 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on the Belt and Road, which is taking place until September 17.

Alejandro Gomez, acting president of Prensa Latina, emphasized the commitment to adding voices to the construction of a fairer, inclusive, and multipolar communications order.

Gomez commented, “The world is going through a period of profound change, marked by common challenges, such as disinformation, unilateral coercive measures, new forms of cultural colonialism, and a still unequal international system.”

Leonardo Attuch, Director-General of Editora 247, Brazil, advocated for concrete practices to consolidate this vision and noted that the focus of development is shifting toward the Global South.

Amin Alhassan, Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, underscored that we must publish stories that reflect our hopes and aspirations, not those that contribute to reinforcing our fears.

Jointly organized by People’s Daily, the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, and the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government, the forum has the theme “Shared Media Responsibilities for Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations.”

The event featured an opening ceremony, a main forum, several sub-forums, an award ceremony for the Silk Road Global News Awards, and the 10+3 Media Cooperation Forum.
