Jordan welcomes UN report accusing Israel of genocide

Amman, Sept 17 (Prensa Latina) The Jordanian government welcomed the report of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which accuses Israel of committing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The report, presented this week by the UN investigation mechanism, concludes that Israeli forces have committed four of the five acts classified as genocidal in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

Among the crimes documented by the commission are the deliberate killing of civilians, serious bodily and mental harm, the imposition of living conditions aimed at the total or partial destruction of the Palestinian people, and measures aimed at preventing births within the affected group.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesman Fouad Majali described the report as clear evidence of an Israeli policy aimed at destroying the Palestinian people, in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

Majali demanded that the Tel Aviv government immediately comply with its legal obligations, end its military offensive in Gaza, and halt all human rights violations committed in the Palestinian enclave.

He also called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and exert effective pressure on Israel to ensure a cessation of hostilities, continued and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, and the protection of the Palestinian people from further aggression.

The Jordanian diplomat emphasized that the only way to reduce regional tensions and achieve a just and lasting peace is through an end to the genocide, accountability for those responsible, and full respect for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their self-determination.
