According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), approximately 2,912 people fled 579 homes. The majority of these displaced people, 72%, found refuge in the neighboring commune of Arcahaie.
“Of these, 62% were hosted by host families, while 38% settled in four recently established spontaneous sites, all housed in schools,” the IOM statement stated.
The international organization denounced the overcrowding in the camps, a situation that creates daily hardships for families, the newspaper Le National emphasized.
IOM and its partners, with support from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund, are working to improve the safety, protection, and dignity of displaced people.
In its statement, IOM warned of the threat cyclone season poses to displaced families living in precarious shelters.
IOM lamented that funding for humanitarian efforts is very limited, and Haiti remains one of the least supported countries in the world.
