Nicaraguan ports report tourism and trade growth

Managua, Sept 18 (Prensa Latina) The National Port Company (EPN) reported a 15 percent increase in tourist traffic at the country's tourist ports last week, totaling more than 68,400 visitors.

According to Carlos Aburto, the institution’s general manager, this result reflects the dynamism of the Nicaraguan tourism and trade sector, according to the Informe Pastran bulletin.

The source stated that the ports of San Juan del Sur, San Jorge heading to Ometepe Island, the maritime terminals of Granada, Gaspar Garcia, Laviana, Las Brisas, and San Carlos all received thousands of passengers, but the largest volume of traffic was at the Salvador Allende port, with 34,729 tourists during the week, consolidating its position as one of the country’s main recreational destinations.

In the commercial arena, Nicaragua maintained intense export and import activity, serving 16 international vessels. The port of Corinto handled 12 vessels, exporting 795 containers of coffee, peanuts, and sugar to Denmark, the United Kingdom, and Peru, with a volume of 9,450 tons.
