According to Actualite.CD, the insurgents have been concentrating forces in the villages of Minjenje, Bibwe, Malemo, and Mpety since Thursday, so the Army’s response may be linked to this reinforcement of the AFC/M23.
Rebel spokesman Lawrence Kanyuka denounced the launching of projectiles on his social media account, which he described as a violent action against densely populated areas.
“These airstrikes, carried out with Sukhoi-25 fighter jets and CH-4 drones, have caused the deaths of numerous civilians and the forced displacement of several compatriots,” he stated, without further confirmation from other sources.
Despite the peace talks currently underway in Qatar, the rebels have maintained their offensive in North Kivu, primarily in Masisi territory; just as the Wazalendo militias, allied with the government, have continued to attack the armed group’s positions.
