After receiving the National Cinematography Prize 2025, under the cover of Zinemaldia, Eduard Fernández denounced “Who is not shocked by the genocide in Gaza has a problem of inhumanity.”
The renowned Catalan actor received the award dressed in a sandy suit adorned with a Palestinian scarf, in an event that I count on the participation of the second vice president of the government, Yolanda Diaz, and the minister of culture, Ernest Urtasun.
“The barbarity of letting children die of hunger is exactly the same, whatever word you give it, genocide or not.
They want to kill them all in the cruellest and most brutal way,” said Fernandez, who also read the names of some of the children killed in Gaza.
Urtasun took advantage of his presence in Donostia to applaud the gestures in favor of Palestine in the first hours of the Festival.
“It is a San Sebastian Festival very demanding and remembering the genocide that is underway in Gaza.
It was very present at the opening gala yesterday. And very present also in the streets, with peaceful demonstrations of citizens”, commented Urtasun.
“As Ministry of Culture, we appreciate this support, which also pushes the government to do more to stop the genocide,” he added.
At the opening ceremony of the event, which will include stars such as the Americans Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie, the French Juliette Binoche or the Irish Colin Farrel, there were several demonstrations in support of Palestine and repudiation to the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
Multi-award-winning Manchego filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar reiterated his support for the Palestinians and disqualified the Tel Aviv regime for its war frenzy to exterminate the people of Gaza.
