Human Rights Secretary Fernanda Aguirre expressed the trade union’s stance in an interview with the Legitima Defensa (Legitima Defense) program of the Caras y Caretas multimedia group.

Aguirre stated the PIT-CNT’s historical stance based on internationalism, anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism, anti-racism, and solidarity with oppressed peoples.

She expressed, “In this sense, Palestine is suffering a genocide, and we cannot be complicit.

The images coming from Gaza are terrible; the suffering of the Palestinian people can be seen almost in real time.”

The activist noted that thousands of civilians have been killed and are missing in the Gaza Strip.

The letter sent to President Yamandu Orsi also refers to the participation of Uruguayan citizens in the solidarity flotilla sailing to Gaza, and demands that the State guarantee their safety.
