EC President rules out imminent Third World War

Brussels, Sept 21 (Prensa Latina) European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen denied that the bloc is heading toward a Third World War, although she admitted that it is a very dangerous moment, the Belgian newspaper Soir reported.

In an interview with the outlet, the senior German official emphasized the need to strengthen the European Union’s (EU) defensive capabilities.

However, she avoided promising the creation of a common army for the bloc.

She clarified that EU member states will always retain responsibility for their troops, military doctrines, and armed forces needs.

This stance reflects the persistent divergences among European partners regarding defensive integration.

Analysts believe that her statements deliberately downplay the risks of global escalation present in current conflicts and point out that the growing expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in the region deepens geopolitical divisions.

Observers point out that von der Leyen is promoting an unprecedented European rearmament policy from her position, citing current threats.

Experts warn that this strategy, far from guaranteeing security, increases global instability and consolidates confrontational blocs.

The absence of an inclusive security architecture that considers all Eurasian powers is a source of concern for various political sectors.
