European Commission concerned about cyberattacks on airports

Brussels, Sept 22 (Prensa Latina) The European Commission (EC) called on Member States to implement the appropriate mechanisms to prevent cyber threats and incidents at airports.

The EC added that members must fully transpose and implement the new directive on network and information systems (known as NIS2) to prevent such incidents.

This demand seeks to prevent related actions such as the attack on the check-in and boarding systems of several EU airports this weekend.

EU spokesperson Thomas Regnier noted that this highlights, once again, the importance of fully transposing and implementing the NIS2 directive in the area of cybersecurity.

Speaking to the press at the daily EC meeting, Regnier recalled that this legislation identified aviation and transport as highly critical areas in the face of such threats.

The NIS2 Directive raises the common level of ambition of the European Union (EU) in cybersecurity through a broader scope, clearer rules, and more robust monitoring tools.
