“We have supported (…) all the complaints filed with the Chilean government regarding the situation in Gaza and the entire position of agreement with the international community to stop this genocide in Gaza. That is our position,” she emphasized.
The president responded in this way to a question about the assignment given to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, who will represent the North American nation at the high-level segment of the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
“And of course, the recognition of the two states: the State of Israel and the Palestinian State, and that there cannot be an aggression against the civilian population like the one currently taking place. That is the position the foreign minister takes and the position we take,” she stated.
Sheinbaum mentioned that during her recent tours of several states in the country, small groups have defended Palestine, and she considered it important to make known the position taken by her administration from the beginning.
“The first time that a president, in this case a female president, receives the credentials of the Palestinian State and recognizes the person who is currently serving as ambassador of Palestine, it is with our government,” she explained.
She also highlighted the constant pursuit, as a state and as a nation, within Mexico’s foreign policy, of peace, non-intervention, and the self-determination of peoples.
