Spring brings school break in Uruguay; no political truce

Montevideo, Sept 22 (Prensa Latina) Spring has arrived in Uruguay, and with it comes a break in the school year. In the case of public schools, this break will be extended to Thursday, when there will be a strike in protest against the assault on the principal of a school.

For their part, the largest part of schools are granting the week off as the last break of the year, ideal for tourism and recreation, especially within the country.

The 2025 spring equinox in Uruguay and throughout the southern hemisphere occurs today, ending a winter that was harsh in the opinion of both the people and meteorologists.

The prelude was a gray Sunday accompanied by intermittent rain and cold weather, at least in the metropolitan region that includes Montevideo, San Jose, and the department of Canelones.

If the sun shines this morning, the capital’s parks will once again be filled with people.

Among them are Prado, Roosevelt, Japanese Botanical Garden, Rivera Park, and Lecocq Park, with spaces that invite family picnics or simply conversation among friends accompanied by Mother Nature and, in many cases, their pets.
