Brazil hears fugitive Bolsonaro supporter congresswoman

Brasilia, Sept 24 (Prensa Latina) The Constitution and Justice Committee of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies will hear via videoconference from Congresswoman Carla Zambelli, a self-confessed supporter of former President Jair Bolsonaro, in the context of her impeachment proceedings.

She has been in prison in Italy since July and awaits a resolution on her extradition request to Brazil.

Zambelli and cybercriminal Walter Delgatti Neto were convicted of computer hacking and false representation. The legislator could also lose her mandate, a decision currently under review in the lower house.

The congresswoman was sentenced by the Supreme Federal Court to 10 years in prison for her participation in the hacking of the National Council of Justice system, with the help of Delgatti Neto.

According to the indictment, Zambelli hired the services of a hacker and promised him work. The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office cites a Federal Police report that confirmed that the hacker “worked for the defendant (Zambelli), and it should be noted that he had access to information on websites and servers associated with the congresswoman.”

The complaint alleges that the payment was hidden, or concealed, in an attempt to conceal the relationship and made through a third party: an employee of Zambelli’s office, who was not charged in the case.

Furthermore, in August, while already detained in Italy, the congresswoman was again sanctioned for illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful coercion. Her extradition process is still pending in the Italian courts, which decided to keep her in pretrial detention while the case is reviewed.
