As part of the first High-Level Meeting “Public Policies for Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security,” executives and ministers from both countries shared experiences and future challenges in these areas.
The Brazilian Minister of Development and Social Assistance, Family and the Fight Against Hunger, Wellington Dias, who reaffirmed the Brazilian government’s firm commitment to collaborating with Cuba, emphasized his country’s interest in learning from Cuba’s experience, exchanging knowledge, and playing an active role in solving common challenges.
The minister explained that the cooperation will be structured in two ways: emerging actions and others that can be developed in the short, medium, and long term, always aligned with the needs defined by the Cuban authorities.
Representatives from the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family Affairs, and the Fight Against Hunger explained the policies implemented in Brazil, aimed at meeting the needs of the population and promoting healthy eating.
The president of the National Fund for the Development of Education in Brazil, Fernanda Macedo, discussed the specifics of the School Food Coalition, an initiative that fights to eradicate hunger and promote food security worldwide, with an emphasis on school meals.
Macedo explained that the Coalition aims to ensure that the 724 million primary school-aged children around the world receive sound meals.
