UN Second: Presidents of Ukraine and Iran among speakers

United Nations, Sept. 24 (Prensa Latina) A total of 18 speakers will take the podium at the UN General Assembly on the second day of debates of the High-Level Segment of the 80th session.

According to the program, speakers will include the presidents of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky; Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian; Argentina, Javier Milei; and Panama, Jose Raul Mulino.

At the opening on Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres lamented the existence of too many uncontrolled crises and that the world is at risk of nuclear proliferation.

His words, which did not sound optimistic to the General Assembly plenary, warned that there is a worsening of crises in a growing number of countries.

“Too many crises remain uncontrolled. Impunity prevails. Anarchy is contagious. It invites chaos, speeds up terrorism, and risks an all-out nuclear war,” said the highest representative of the multilateral organization before delegations from 193 countries.

Guterres stressed that the pillars of peace are crumbling under the weight of impunity, inequality, and indifference.

“For every dollar invested in supporting our fundamental work of building peace, the world spends $750 on weapons of war. This is not only unsustainable, it is indefensible,” he emphasized.

Guterres said that “around the world, we see countries acting as if the rules do not apply to them. We see human beings treated as less than human.”
